Specsfin

Specsfin helps people get glasses on credit, with six-month payment terms and no upfront cost. Its aim is to make good quality, ethical eyecare affordable to all, at a time when medical aid has become expensive for many people while its real benefits have shrunk, and the cost of eyecare products and services keeps rising.

Customers visit one of Specsfin’s associated optometrists, who examine their eyes and advise whether glasses are needed. If the customer decides to finance a pair through Specsfin, the optometrist helps them apply online inside the practice. Specsfin then completes a standard assessment, and once the first month’s instalment is paid it gives final approval and authorises the optometrist to make up and dispense the glasses.

The company works through a network of associated optometry practices, listed on its website, and provides existing customers with an online portal to manage their accounts. Specsfin is based in Highlands North, Johannesburg, and publishes a code of conduct and PAIA manual on its site.
